# 3. Dates, Keyword and Hidden Events

Narrow a widget to a date range or a keyword, and hide free events or events without an image.

## A specific date, year or period

1. In **Content > Filter Events**, turn on **Specific Date, Year or Period**.
2. Choose **Restrict To**: **Specific Date** (then **Select Date**), **Specific Year** (then **Set Year**), or **Specific Period (From & To)** (then **From** and **To**).

A fixed date range does not move on its own. For a rolling "this week" or "next month" list that visitors can change, use an AJAX filter with an Event Timeframe row instead. See [Add AJAX Live Filters](https://elementor.wpeventful.com/docs/ajax-live-filters/).

## Events that match a keyword

1. Turn on **Keyword Search**.
2. Type the word in **Type Keyword**, for example *workshop*.
3. Leave **Show Search in Live Filters** off. The widget then shows only matching events, with no search box.

The keyword is matched against the event title and description. To give visitors a search box instead, turn on Show Search in Live Filters.

## Hide free events or events without an image

- **Hide Free Events**: leaves out free events: events with no cost entered and events whose cost is `0`. Use it for a list of paid events only.
- **Hide Events Without Featured Images**: keeps image layouts even, for example in carousels and grids.
