# 2. Upcoming, Past and All Events

Choose whether a widget shows upcoming events, past events or both.

1. Open **Content > Filter Events**.
[![Eventful past events setting: Type of Event in the Filter Events section](https://elementor.wpeventful.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/editor-query@2x-1.webp)](https://elementor.wpeventful.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/editor-query@2x-1.webp)
Type of Event and the options below it.
2. Set **Type of Event** to **Upcoming Events**, **Past Events** (Pro) or **All (Upcoming + Past)** (Pro).
3. For past events, set **Order** to **Descending** so the most recent event comes first. See [Order, Limit and Recurring Series](https://elementor.wpeventful.com/docs/order-limit-series/).

## When does an event count as past?

That depends on **Determine Status by Start Date**:

| Setting | An event is upcoming until... |
| --- | --- |
| Off (default) | it ends. A multi-day event stays upcoming while it is on. |
| On | it begins. Once it has started, it counts as past. |
